One of the aspects of designing things for these films is that LOTS of work gets rejected for all kinds of reasons, but mostly it is just not what the producers/director/whoever has in mind.
It is just something you have to learn to deal with and move on.
So here are a few recent creature designs I did for a movie that were rejected. I could have continued to work on reaching a design that was more to the director's liking but in this case I was supervising work on another project and didn't have time to revisit it.

Alien concepts for AMERICAN BATTL... I mean WARSHIP!
I went through MANY iterations on the alien design for the SyFy movie AMERICAN WARSHIP starring Carl Weathers and Mario Van Peebles.
Originally they were supposed to be made of crystal... but the over riding design call was for "something that has not been seen before"!
Here's a few of them - roughly in development order.

Z-Brush practice
I have always enjoyed sculpture and I am trying to improve My skills with z-brush...
A redesign of the 3rd Stage Guild Navigator from the 1984 Dune movie, a bust of an H.P. Lovecraft character "Mother Hydra", and a redesign of what Tali Zorah Vas Normandy from the Mass Effect video game series might look like under her helmet (instead of the boring photo-shoped human photo they used).
All Designs - except the Navigator's head are copyright 2012 Sasha Burrow

Nazis At The Center Of The Earth
When the script for Nazis at the Center of the Earth (NatCotE) crossed into the VFX department for assessment, there was a surprise in store - a resurrected Hitler... initially the plan was going to be to somehow superimpose Hitler's head on a bodybuilder's body - an idea that filled the VFX team with horror (It would be supremely hard to accomplish in the 4 weeks that would be allotted for completing all the special effects). So the VFX team at the Asylum threw around a few ideas - one of which was for Hitler to have a robot body.
I quickly pulled together the following piece of concept art, which went back to the producers a day or two later and they decided to make the change and go for Robo-Hitler!
Unfortunately the Nazis on dinosaurs idea was dropped...
Also got to create the 3D model of Robo-Hitler as well...

GRIMM'S SNOW WHITE
Here are a few of the creature designs I did a while back for the ASYLUM'S "Grimm's Snow White" lizard beast. Initially the call was for a two headed creature, but for animation purposes it ended up being only a single head. More images to come as the movies get released, including designs for AMERICAN BATTLESHIP, NAZIS AT THE CENTER OF THE EARTH and BIGFOOT
