CTHULHU, Lord of R'yleh
First attempt at CTHULHU that I am somewhat happy with... I get so bored with the uninspired versions of a man with an octopus for a head and some bat wings stuck on for laughs.
Cthulhu is described as being ...not composed altogether of flesh and blood. They had shape [...] but that shape was not made of matter...
I always recall an interesting demonstration by Carl Sagan on the show Cosmos, where he demonstrated what a two dimensional person would see if a three dimensional person entered their world... This is an extrapolation - what would we see in three dimensions of a creature that existed in four?
As for wings, I went with pterosaur wings, instead of the usual "dragon" wings, since I see Cthulhu using them in a more penguin-like fashion to swim under the ocean, rather than to fly in the air.
At Cthulhu's feet are the vanguard of an army of "Deep Ones", who worship Cthulhu and dominate the deep, now ready to dominate the land.

Shub Niggurath
A quick concept piece of Shub Niggurath, “The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young” - one of the many creatures and entities created by renowned cosmic horror author H.P. Lovecraft.
She is the "All-Mother and wife of the Not-to-Be-Named-One".
There are no real descriptions of her in the stories, so artist frequently depict her as a big blob of tentacles, occasionally with legs and often with many mouths. Tends to look a bit silly really.
Not sure if this concept is any better but went with the fertility idol aspect of Shub Niggurath, hence the huge udders and pregnant belly.
"Her" mere existence in our world is forcibly tearing the dimensions apart in a fiery conflagration that trails behind "her" as "she" moves.
Would like to add a greater sense of scale and motion and power if I get a chance to revisit this idea some time.

Not every design is a winner...
One of the aspects of designing things for these films is that LOTS of work gets rejected for all kinds of reasons, but mostly it is just not what the producers/director/whoever has in mind.
It is just something you have to learn to deal with and move on.
So here are a few recent creature designs I did for a movie that were rejected. I could have continued to work on reaching a design that was more to the director's liking but in this case I was supervising work on another project and didn't have time to revisit it.

GRIMM'S SNOW WHITE
Here are a few of the creature designs I did a while back for the ASYLUM'S "Grimm's Snow White" lizard beast. Initially the call was for a two headed creature, but for animation purposes it ended up being only a single head. More images to come as the movies get released, including designs for AMERICAN BATTLESHIP, NAZIS AT THE CENTER OF THE EARTH and BIGFOOT
